On Wednesday morning, The DTAP vaccine was administered on the left thigh and that IPV Polio vaccine was administered on the left thigh. She immediately complained that the left thigh hurt, and it started to swell almost immediately. Her left thigh was swollen, and she said it hurt and didn?t want to walk at that moment. We applied ice compresses that afternoon hoping it would subside. By Thursday, there was a noticeable bruise at the injection site which we assumed was normal, but her twin sister did not have any swelling or bruising. Patient was extremely irritable and uncomfortable. She was crying and not acting like herself. By Friday, the crying was incessant, and the swelling started to go down; however, she developed a low-grade fever (100.4). We monitored the fever and administered Children?s Tylenol that evening as it was not going down. She kept saying she was hot then she was cold and vice versa. Saturday morning, she woke up crying that she was in pain and was still tired even after sleeping ten (10) hours straight. Her fever had subsided, but she said she had a headache on the top of her head that went from the left side to the right side and that it hurt a lot. She wanted to stay in bed and complained that the lights and the sun bothered her. She had a blanket over her face and would scream if any light was visible. By lunchtime, she vomited once and then the fever returned. She did not want to eat much and was lethargic and irritable. Children?s Tylenol was administered that evening when the fever peaked at 102.1. She was crying most of the day and in an irritable state, not like her at all. She would whine over everything. On Sunday she was irritable and crying incessantly, she only wanted to be laying down and tried to sleep most of the day. Her fever would come and go all day. She kept saying she was hot and then cold again and wanted to be wrapped in a blanket (likely due to the fever) but we did not allow her as we wanted to regulate her temperature. When I undressed her, her body was scorching hot and the fever reached 103 overnight. Monday morning there was no fever, just irritability and lots of whining. We took her to the pediatrician that afternoon. She had a low-grade fever at that time and Ibuprofen was administered. She had a full meltdown at the pediatrician?s office just kicking and screaming (something she had never down before). Her pediatrician said her throat was inflamed and she probably had a throat infection. The tests for strep throat, Covid19 and flu all came back negative. Monday evening, she had diarrhea and her fever came back. Her fever finally subsided by Wednesday night, however the diarrhea lasted for 2 days. It has been 2 weeks and she is still extremely irritable and crying over everything. Her attitude and demeaner has changed drastically and I am concerned.
