The patient received his second IPV vaccine Wednesday (8/6/25). Mom reported he was doing well until the following afternoon (Thursday 8/7/25) when he lost the ability to crawl, walk, or stand and was in pain. Mom reported every time he tried to stand he would fall over screaming. His right leg developed a welty rash, and he had 1 episode of diarrhea and 1 episode of vomiting along with refusal to eat meals. He cried all night long Thursday night. Mom called the office the next morning (Friday 8/8/25) and was instructed to massage the leg, give some Benadryl for the rash, and Tylenol and Motrin for comfort. Parents had started the Tylenol and Motrin that Thursday afternoon before calling. The rash went away on its own by Saturday without Benadryl, and he started eating again as of Sunday. He started slowly crawling and standing again as well over the weekend but is still unable to walk on his own. He no longer screams in pain but when he tries to walk, he falls over. He had previously been walking on his own very well for 3 weeks prior. Parents took him to hospital and any orthopedic issue or transient synovitis was ruled out. Parents followed up with a Neurologist and they also did not think it was Guillain-Barre syndrome. Neurology is going to monitor him over the next week as he is slowly regaining his skills- If he is still having issues, they are planning on doing further testing, including an MRI.
