Symptom narrative

Child screamed and cried immediately upon injection and afterwards. He became very lethargic, took a nap, and then refused to bear weight or move the leg at all. Right leg developed swelling, hardness, warmth extending along the entire iliotibial band, with some bruising at the injection site and extreme pain to touch. He refused walking entirely for the first 1?2 days, had major fatigue, and decreased appetite. Limping persisted for approximately 2 weeks before gait returned to normal. Behavioral changes followed, including sleep disturbances, night terrors, anxiety, and regression, which lasted about one year. Symptoms improved gradually over time. Primary care physician was consulted. Child is now back to baseline.
