Symptom narrative

Patient received the HPV vaccine on September 4, 2025, with no immediate concerns upon administration and an unremarkable past medical history. Patient presented to the school-based health center on October 9, 2025, reporting that left arm pain began the day of her HPV vaccine with mild pain and swelling localized to the administration site, and since then symptoms have progressed to pain, swelling, and tenderness to the left upper arm (deltoid), weakness of the left shoulder, and intermittent numbness in the upper arm. Reported limited ROM due to pain and weakness. Reported no medications at time of visit for symptoms or visits with other healthcare providers due to symptoms. Provider for visit recommended over-the-counter antiinflammatories (NSAIDs) for symptom management with rest, gentle motion, and ice. Pending conversation with parents to refer to physical therapy and for evaluation with orthopedist to determine whether MRI or injected corticosteroid is warranted based on history and symptom presentation.
