Symptom narrative

Vaccine administrator hit a vein while performing intramuscular injection into the right deltoid. Patient started bleeding immediately after injection and pressure was applied to the area with a cotton ball. A clot formed immediately under the skin, the technician panicked and asked pharmacist for assistance. After assessing the situation and speaking to the patient, pharmacist decided to contact EMS to have someone assess patient for a potential PE/PVT. Patient did not lose consciousness nor was in acute distress during this process. She was upset that a pharmacists did not administer the vaccine and that a technician did so instead. The patient was assessed by EMS on the scene, but refused to go to the hospital for a full workup. She mentioned that she would rather visit her own doctor or urgent care instead.
