Received message from patient11/5/25 at 16:41: "Hi! Not sure if you can put a note in the computer or not about the Shingrix vaccine that I received 10/30/25. I went to urgent care yesterday and was told I was having an anaphylactic response to it and to definitely not get the 2nd shot. I kept thinking the symptoms would get better with time, but they kept getting worse which is why I didn?t go until yesterday. Thanks!" I phoned the patient to confirm the reaction. She advised that 5-6 hours after the vaccine she began to experience headache, IJR (redness, itchness on R arm), and low-grade fever (max 101F). She reported to UC after 5 days because HA and IJR had not resolved; UC provider also noted swollen lymph notes. At the UC visit the patient was treated with an IM steroid (dexamethasone?), and was told to take diphenhydramine (IJR) and apap (HA) as needed. The patient advised fever and IJR have improved, but she still has a headache. I questioned why the UC provider mentioned anaphylaxis as the timing and symptoms didn't match; she reported no swollen tongue, throat, SOB, low BP, or signs of shock at any point. I advised anaphylaxis may not be the most precise term. Patient is forgoing the second dose of Shingrix and we have documented this in our system.
