Symptom narrative

Patient returned to pharmacy within 1 to 2 min of getting the vaccine (within 30 seconds of leaving vaccination area.) She was very red and mildly panicked saying she didn't feel well. She entered the vaccination area and was assessed. She complained of tightness in chest and throat, was hot/flushed, slightly dizzy. After another couple minutes she complained of a shooting pain in her back. Her pulse and blood pressure were normal. Her pupils normal. We provided a cold/damp paper towel to forehead. She said she did not feel faint and did not feel like there was any swelling of her throat or mouth, if anything her breathing just felt more labored due to the tightness in chest. EMS was called as a precaution. An EKG was performed. We were not informed of results but can only assume it was normal because shortly after that she declined going to the hospital and left. This was her first "senior" dose of flu shot as she had just turned 65. Previously, she has not reacted to vaccination except one time she almost fainted due to low blood sugar. Acute phase of reaction lasted probably 5 to 10 min, within 10 to 15 min she was back to normal color. She was fully recovered within 30 min.
