I vaccinated a 14-year-old this am. She was with her father, and they were both requesting flu shots. I ran claims thru for both and dad filled out paperwork for himself and her. I vaccinated her first, and then she stood up and fainted. It looked as though she may have experienced a seizure after fainting, she had several shaky movements of her head and arms for about 1 minutes time and was confused. [name withheld] called for 911 help. Dad immediately jumped in from of me to assist her and was asking her all types of medical questions like does your head hurt, is your vision blurry, he took her pulse with his watch. I was literally right by his side while he was doing all this, I asked him if he was a doctor. He said he used to be and EMT. She hit her head when she fell so I'm not completely sure what caused these symptoms. As minutes passed her shakiness resolved, we offered her water, and she was able to sit up. I stayed next to her while [name withheld] gave dad his shot (at his request). I had to waste a shot because I was literally about to inject dad when she fainted and he jumped up to assist her. I was standing there with the needle exposed in my hand and for safety I immediately wasted to dose into the sharps. Dad then changed his mind on the ambulance and told us she was ok. I told him in front of store manager [name withheld] that it is possible though rare for patients to experience a seizure after vaccination. I recommended dad call her pediatrician and based on their recommendation follow see a neurologist for further. evaluation
