Symptom narrative

Pimply rash started on face July 13th, 2024, family doctor at the time diagnosed as baby acne. Rash spread to chest and down arm end of July 2024, doctor reassessed, still stated she thought it was baby acne. August 7th, I noticed patient's eyes looking a darker white and the outer edges of his eyes had a slight yellow tint. Notified family doctor who placed lab orders. A couple hours later he started to develop petechiae on his arm. He was then taken to the local emergency department where he started to become very jaundice starting in his eyes and forehead and spreading down his body. He started to have pale stool also at this time. Bloodwork came back with very high AST/ALT/Bilirubin levels. We were then sent to Hospital for further eval. He was admitted to PICU, placed on glucose drip due to low blood sugar levels and elevated liver enzymes. Many tests were run, everything was negative. Liver biopsy done which showed possible PFIC, genetic tests were sent out and we were told we would receive results after 3 weeks. We were sent home once blood sugar levels were stabilized and everything else was negative. He was started on ursodiol twice daily, vitamin K, and a multivitamin. Weeks later all genetic testing was negative. The only result that did show up was that he is a carrier for PFIC, he does not have PFIC.
