Symptom narrative

Shingles; had one lesion. In the cornea of my eye.; sharp, lightning-like bolts shooting through her sinus cavity; lost a lot of vision in one eye; nerve damage and I never have gotten rid of the pain; valtrex did nothing but make me sick; it affected my ability to take anything in the way of meds; This non-serious case was reported by a consumer via interactive digital media and described the occurrence of shingles in a female patient who received Herpes zoster (Shingles vaccine) for prophylaxis. Co-suspect products included valaciclovir hydrochloride (Valtrex) film-coated tablet for product used for unknown indication. On 08-JUL-2025, the patient received Shingles vaccine. On an unknown date, the patient started Valtrex. On 08-JUL-2025, less than a day after receiving Shingles vaccine and Valtrex, the patient experienced shingles (Verbatim: Shingles), corneal lesion (Verbatim: had one lesion. In the cornea of my eye.), trigeminal neuralgia (Verbatim: sharp, lightning-like bolts shooting through her sinus cavity), vision decreased (Verbatim: lost a lot of vision in one eye), nerve damage (Verbatim: nerve damage and I never have gotten rid of the pain), sickness (Verbatim: valtrex did nothing but make me sick) and labile affect (Verbatim: it affected my ability to take anything in the way of meds). The outcome of the shingles, corneal lesion, trigeminal neuralgia, vision decreased, nerve damage, sickness and labile affect were not resolved. It was unknown if the reporter considered the shingles, corneal lesion, trigeminal neuralgia, vision decreased, nerve damage, sickness and labile affect to be related to Shingles vaccine and Valtrex. GSK receipt date: 06-DEC-2025 She had been living with shingles since 8 JUL 2025. The outbreak began in her head and included a single lesion on the cornea of her eye. From the start, the pain was overwhelming—sharp, lightning-like bolts shot through her sinus cavity, eye, temple, and head. At times, she felt as though she might lose her mind. The condition caused nerve damage, and the pain never truly subsided. Burning, stinging, numbness, and an internal itching sensation became constant companions. Valacyclovir had been prescribed, but it only made her sick and left her unable to tolerate other medications. Over time, she lost significant vision in one eye. Her colon and stomach never returned to normal, and doctors warned that the aftereffects could last for a year or possibly for the rest of her life. She no longer felt like the person she had been before all this began. Specialists told her that shingles in the eye increased her future risk of stroke. The virus had affected the trigeminal nerve, which ran through the face and head. Eating became difficult, and she developed intolerances to many foods. Walking grew unsteady, forcing her to seek help from a physical therapist. She consulted an ophthalmologist, a cornea specialist, an audiologist, an ear nose and throat doctor, and others—more doctors than she had ever seen in her life. She believed that decades of stress had weakened her immune system and ultimately led to shingles. For forty years, she had endured a challenging home environment, and her health had struggled daily. Despite everything, her faith remained her anchor. The medications offered to her felt like empty promises—solutions that might fix one problem while creating others. At nearly seventy-four years old, she was discouraged. Most people recovered from shingles in eight to twelve weeks, but she had reached twenty-one weeks with little improvement. The endless appointments brought few positive results. She longed for a natural approach to healing—something simple and restorative—because the conventional treatments had done more harm than good. The batch number was not provided, and we were unable to contact the reporter. This case was reported by a patient via interactive digital media.
