I developed painful swelling that is red and hot to the touch as well as painful if touched around the injection site on my right arm. After the vaccine (Monday 12/15), I developed a mild fever that afternoon and then had a headache on & off for two days. On Wednesday (12/17) morning, I felt my arm still hurt when I woke up and then later in the morning saw it was red & swollen when I went to take off the band-aid. My partner drew a dotted sharpie line around the site of the swelling and it is about the size of a small cup coaster. My partner took a photo which I sent to my doctors office via online office chart and they followed up the next morning (Thursday 12/18) asking me to come in that afternoon to have it evaluated by PA-C. From the office visit notes, PA-C determined it was "Cellulitis of right upper extremity" noting that "There is circular erythematous area noted over the right deltoid muscle (approx 1.5x1.5 inches in size); there is tenderness and mild swelling" and that "Patient states she received the pneumococcal conjugate 21 vaccine 4 days ago and since then she has noticed redness, swelling, and tenderness in the right arm. Patient drew a circle around the affected area to monitor for worsening symptoms. In the last day, redness has spread mildly". She prescribed cephalexin (KEFLEX) 500 MG capsule; Take 1 capsule (500 mg total) by mouth 2 (two) times a day for one week. I will start this prescription tonight; I was told to check back in with the office if arm swelling/redness doesn't clear up within one week. Office declined to submit a VAERS report when requested and suggested I submit it myself.
