The patient experienced a rapidly progressive neurological deterioration characterized by acute cognitive decline, altered consciousness, and seizure activity, ultimately diagnosed as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). - Signs and Symptoms Rapid cognitive decline / dementia syndrome Progressive loss of consciousness Stupor and coma Seizure activity (suspected and later treated) Diffuse cortical dysfunction on EEG Functional dependence and total care requirement Fever reported during hospitalization Neurological status progressively worsened despite supportive care, with no meaningful recovery of consciousness or function. In September 2025, my mother was diagnosed with CreutzfeldtJakob disease (CJD). Our family is requesting a medical/scientific review of whether her illness could be associated with the COVID-19 vaccination she received in December 2022. The following factors raise concern and warrant examination. 1. No known family history of CJD. 2. Low likelihood of local foodborne exposure. Government-published surveillance information indicates that variant CJD (vCJD)the form associated with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, "mad cow disease") exposurehas been reported as an imported case. 3. Relevant medical literature. We are aware of published reports describing CJD onset following COVID-19 vaccination in individual patients and studies that have evaluated potential associations at a population level. We include these references for review: Given the severity and rarity of CJD, we respectfully request a thorough review to assess any possible relationship.
