Pt with hx of nonverbal autism and severe obesity received vaccines on 12/4, injected in both upper extremities. 3 weeks later (12/24), he presents with severe swelling of entire left upper extremity. Mother notes it has been progressively getting worse since 12/4. He was sent to ER immediately due to concerns of cellulitis. He was then transferred to another larger hospital for admission. He was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis with osteomyelitis of the left upper extremity, which was seen on CT imaging. He also developed multifocal pneumonia and sepsis while admitted. He was treated with IV antibiotics, and received multiple debridement surgeries to remove pus from his arm. Due to septic shock, he had to be placed on pressors and was intubated. He is being followed by the surgical ICU team and is still sedated/intubated as of this report on 12/29.
