Went in to a routine shot at 11:15am on 12/29 and was told Patient was getting the MMR shot that was on the vaccine schedule. We confirmed the shot with the nurse and doctor. Before receiving the shot, I signed a paper stating what the shot was and where it was going. I did not fill out anything else on the paper as the nurse said he would do the rest. At 5:00pm that night, I received a call stating they administered the wrong vaccine and he received the menvo meningococcal vaccine. They were asking how he was and told me the side effects of the vaccine. They stated the vaccine could go from 9 months to 55 year olds. They apologized and we ended the phone call. On Tuesday the 30th at 8:00pm, he started to have an allergic reaction to the vaccine. He had red bumps all over his stomach and back. His breathing was fine, but the reaction was not from anything abnormal. I continued to monitor the whole night. At 7:00am on Wednesday the 31st, I called [withheld] medical and left a voicemail stating what was happening and him needing to be seen as it was still there in the morning. He was seen at 2:15pm on the 31st. They claimed it was an allergic reaction from the vaccine and apologized for giving him the vaccine. I asked what ages would be appropriate for this vaccine and they said it was fine to give at his age, but they do recommend the ages around middle school. We agreed to give him Zyrtec and watch for anymore symptoms. If they do get worse, we will give him something stronger.
