Symptom narrative

2-3 minutes after receiving vaccine, child's body and arms went stiff and lost consciousness. During episode patients' arms were bent towards center of body with flexed wrists and curled fingers. Mother caught child before he fell out of chair. Child regained consciousness after about 30 seconds and reported that after receiving vaccine he "felt dizzy and then everything went black." Rapid response was called and ED staff reported to immunization room immediately. Child appeared pale but was alert and orientated per ED staff assessment questions. This is the child's second vaccine out of a 2-dose series, tolerated first dose well, child was anxious about receiving vaccine today.
