Patient briefly passed out (10 seconds or less) after receiving the flu vaccine. Per dad, the patient slightly convulsed and was really nervous about receiving the vaccine. The patient looked pale for a couple of minutes after receiving the vaccine. Patient had some OJ and a granola bar right after (he had not had anything to eat for the previous 5 or 6 hours and just finished an intense school sport practice). Symptoms and BP were monitored. Patient begin to shiver, complaining of tingling in arms, fingers, and ankle, felt a little nauseous and had some discomfort in chest. 911 was called. Patients fingertips began to turn blue. Patient remained conscious and breathing. BP was fine and stable. EMTs arrived and assessed the patient. They did not believe it was an anaphylactic reaction (throat, breathing and no rashes). EKG was performed and it was normal. EMTs released patient. The time frame for this event was around 45 minutes. The patient has never had a reaction to the flu vaccine before.
