sore arm; This non-serious case was reported by a consumer via interactive digital media and described the occurrence of pain in arm in a patient who received Herpes zoster (Shingles vaccine) for prophylaxis. The patient's past medical history included chickenpox (during childhood). Family history included shingles (mother had outbreak). On an unknown date, the patient received the 2nd dose of Shingles vaccine. On an unknown date, an unknown time after receiving Shingles vaccine, the patient experienced pain in arm (Verbatim: sore arm). The outcome of the pain in arm was not reported. Patient's mom had called one day years ago and had said he/she could not have his/her young grandsons, who were 6 and 8 at the time, over because patient had shingles. Mother of the patient had told patient that if they were near patient, hugging patient, or climbing into patient's lap, they could get chickenpox. Patient's mom had reminded patient that patient had had chickenpox as a child and said mother of the patient did not want patient getting shingles again because it was horrible. So patient did not leave the house until the doctor had cleared patient from being contagious. Patient had really appreciated mother of the patient warning and her staying inside during her own outbreaks. They had put groceries on her porch whenever she had an outbreak. My children, who were now 28 and 31, had never contracted shingles. Patient had gotten his/her shingles vaccine at 60 after seeing what she had gone through. After both shots, the only reaction patient had was a sore arm in his/her non dominant hand. It had been a wise choice. The pharmacy had said they would send patient a text alert when it was time for the second shot, but patient never got the text, so patient had driven there and gotten the second shot. So patient had learned to keep an eye on the shot spacing himself/herself, if they did not contact patient, Patient needed to go in. Patient's mom had not wanted anyone else to suffer through it, and after she had described it, Patient knew no one would want that.
