Symptoms began around 1pm on 12/6/2025 with a burning and throbbing pain in my left low back/buttock. Within a few mins my left foot and lateral lower leg began to go numb, it ascended quickly up my leg to my pelvis along with the same burning/throbbing pain shooting into my left groin and left inner thigh. Once the numbness was about half way up my left leg the numbness began in my right foot and lower leg and ascended quickly up to my pelvis on my right side. I contacted my husband when the pain was getting severe and my legs were going numb to come pick me up and take me to the ER. The area I was in was a minimum of 35 mins to the closest ER, and 20 mins from where he was at the time. He had to carry me out to the car as my legs were completely paralyzed when he got to me. The pain was excruiciating! When I arrived at the ER the paralysis was up to my mid abdomen and I was also having left facial tingling, I also could not urinate on my own. I was quickly assessed at the ER. They ruled out stroke, ordered tests, and put me in an observation unit. Once scans/tests were complete to rule out any physiologic cause to what was occurring they determined there was nothing physical wrong. They then asked me if I had been sick recently or received any vaccines. I had not been sick for almost a year at this point with any illness, but I did get a flu shot the end of October. At this point they began running tests to check for Guillain Barre Syndrome, GBS. Due to the possibility and symptoms of being GBS, they began treatment for GBS which was strong IV steroids and IVIG therapy. Within a day of receiving the first IVIG treatment, I began to regain some sensation in my right leg. As treatments progressed, I began to get enough sensation in my legs to take a few steps with walker and a person to assist me. Once therapy was complete as an inpatient, I was discharged home with follow up for neurology and continue outpatient physical and occupational therapy. I was in the hospital for 6 days.
