within 48 hours: left ear pain, vesicles in left pinna and in ear canal, headache, body aches , low grade fever, lower facial discomfort . blood work and imaging not yet done. Today is 1 week since he had the shingrix vaccine. HE was prescribed VAltrex 1 gram every 8 hours on Jan 21, and I added steroids to his regimen the next day. HE isn't getting worse, but he is afraid he will again have facial paralysis and sores on his tongue.

Ramsey Hunt syndrome caused by delay in care in 2023. Patient has decreased hearing in left ear, poor balance, and slight residual left lower facial droop as residual. AS this was 2.4 years ago, a shingrix vaccine made sense in order to prevent another episode . However, the vaccine precipitated another episode of Ramsey Hunt syndrome. The big difference is that he got care within 48 hours of symptoms.
