Symptom narrative

had my first cataract surgery; finally had the second shingles shot in 2025; pressure inside the eye get's to 50 permanent damage occurs and mine was 47; permanent damage occurs to the optic nerve; Shingles all places on the top of my head/shingles in sinus; it (shingles) got in my left eye/shingles had damaged the natural drain installed my eye; This serious case was reported by a consumer via interactive digital media and described the occurrence of ophthalmic herpes zoster in a adult male patient who received Herpes zoster (Shingles vaccine) for prophylaxis. Co-suspect products included Herpes zoster (Shingles vaccine) for prophylaxis. On an unknown date, the patient received the 2nd dose of Shingles vaccine and the 1st dose of Shingles vaccine. On 10-MAR-2022, not applicable after receiving Shingles vaccine and an unknown time after receiving Shingles vaccine, the patient experienced ophthalmic herpes zoster (Verbatim: it (shingles) got in my left eye/shingles had damaged the natural drain installed my eye) (serious criteria GSK medically significant) and facial herpes zoster (Verbatim: Shingles all places on the top of my head/shingles in sinus). In MAR-2023, the patient experienced intracranial pressure increased (Verbatim: pressure inside the eye get's to 50 permanent damage occurs and mine was 47) (serious criteria GSK medically significant) and optic nerve damage (Verbatim: permanent damage occurs to the optic nerve) (serious criteria GSK medically significant). On an unknown date, the patient experienced cataract (Verbatim: had my first cataract surgery) (serious criteria GSK medically significant and clinically significant/intervention required) and drug dose administration interval too long (Verbatim: finally had the second shingles shot in 2025). The outcome of the ophthalmic herpes zoster, cataract, intracranial pressure increased and optic nerve damage were unknown and the outcome of the facial herpes zoster was resolving and the outcome of the drug dose administration interval too long was not applicable. It was unknown if the reporter considered the ophthalmic herpes zoster, cataract, intracranial pressure increased, optic nerve damage and facial herpes zoster to be related to Shingles vaccine. The company considered the ophthalmic herpes zoster, cataract, intracranial pressure increased and optic nerve damage to be unrelated to Shingles vaccine. It was unknown if the company considered the facial herpes zoster to be related to Shingles vaccine. Additional Information: GSK Receipt Date: 03-MAR-2026 Shingles were brought on by exposure or stress and it could appear anywhere on the body. On 10-March-2022, shingles began and it started of all places on the top of his head. It affected everything below. Even his sinus and it got in his left eye and there were three eye emergencies, cut, puncture and shingles. The eye doctor was either not much experience or just did not know. After his/her face healed the shingles remained active in eye. In March-2023, he had to have a drain installed in his/her eye. When the pressure inside the eye gets to 50 permanent damage occurs to the optic nerve and his was 47. The shingles had damaged the natural drain installed his eye. In November 2023, he had his first cataract surgery. The shingles had made the cataract grow. A new lens was installed and April-2024, he had his second cataract surgery. This time it was laser treatment. The patient finally had the second shingles shot in 2025. The batch number was not provided and unable to contact the reporter.; Sender's Comments: A case of Ophthalmic herpes zoster, Cataract, Intracranial pressure increased, Optic nerve injury, on an unknown time after receiving 1st dose of Shingles vaccine in a adult male patient. Based on the available information a possible causality that the events were caused by the GSK product cannot be ascertained. Consent for further follow up has not been received. The company has assessed that the events Ophthalmic herpes zoster, Cataract, Intracranial pressure increased, Optic nerve injury were not caused by the 2nd dose of Shingles vaccine.
