Patient came in for 3 vaccines. Gave flu shot in right arm then gave hep b in left arm. When starting to administer adacel vaccine before giving shot patient said he didn't feel well. Patient's head fell back and eyes rolled back. Immediately grabbed patients head, started tapping his shoulder. Patients arms and legs started convulsing told tech to call 911. Kept calling patients name, he was still breathing, on line with 911 operator. Had tech bring ice pack and bp monitor. Patient mumbled, opened eyes periodically bp was 82/48 52 pulse. Patient seemed to improve gradually but it took some time. Wife said he has had problems in the past with getting labs done and shots.(but did not put on his vaccine consent form). Fire and rescue arrived. Emt said that the convulsions were part of the vasovagal reflex response. But gradually increased to 124/74 then 136/82 on standing. Customer did not go to ER. Totally recovered and profusely apologized. Did not administer 3rd shot. EMT's also did EKG thought they saw something of concern. Called their md to make sure. Dr. looked at and said it was ok. Patient thanked me and left pharmacy. Wife received her flu shot. Event Details
