The weeks post injection, pt had been doing Physical Therapy, and began to cancel her sessions because she was feeling weaker. by Mid-March she was complaining how her legs felt very heavy, and then by the end of March she was having trouble getting around her condo to the point of dragging her right leg. By April 2nd she couldn't move her legs hardly at all, so we went to the Emergency room, and she never ever returned home and battled for 21 months. It took a long time to get the diagnosis of Gullian-Barre due to long waits to get EMG's in our area, by then she had been in the hospital, sent to acute rehab, then to long term rehab hospital. Rounds of IVIG, and Physical Therapy continued. . We had to fight discharges due to lack of improvement but won a few times based on the time it takes to recover from Gullian-Barre. But, eventually she ran out of the 100 days of medicare for Long Term care, then had to self pay at a nursing home at a cost of over $10,000/month. She was fitted for braces on both legs and continued to challenge herself with Physical Therapy. Some improvement happened over time, but it was always a struggle to get the legs working and they said she had neuro-genic bladder from the Gullian-Barre, so he needs for toileting were difficult and her bowels were not performing well. During the first 4 months of her battle, she gained a coccyx bedsore that took 7 months to heal, but came back after 2 months. It went from a stage 3 to a stage 4. My mother became exceedingly more depressed and anxious as the months passed by and ended up in the Geriatric Psychiatry unit with a breakdown in reality, at this point caught C-Dif and never returned to her normal self. She endured a lot of pain and suffering until she passed away on January 7, 2026. Prior to the vaccine she was an active woman with back issues that participated in water aerobics senior classes, did her own shopping, drove, visited friends and family and ate out with friends. The aftermath of the vaccine and the Guillian-Barre that followed was a miserable existence. She did not have any other risk factors prior to the Gullian-Barre that would have brought that syndrome on, so I feel the vaccine was her life changing event. Some 70 doctor appointments, 2 hospital stays, 3 weeks in the Psychiatric Unit, 2-3 ER visits, it was a lot for her and me as her caregiver.
