Symptom narrative

Initial Symptoms included: - Marked redness surrounding injection site - Significant swelling and firmness of the upper arm - Intense warmth, extremely hot to touch - Severe tenderness and pain The degree of heat and discomfort was substantial enough that I needed to keep icepacks on my arm continuously for relief. Over the next 24 hours, the redness, swelling and throbbing spread beyond the immediate injection site and extended down my upper arm toward my elbow. It became: - hard and extremely swollen - bright red and extremely hot to touch - painful to move or touch The reaction involved a large portion of the upper arm and underneath the arm rather than remaining localized to the injection site. In addition to inflammatory reaction, I experienced neurologic symptoms including: - tingling, pins and needles, sensation - numbness and discomfort - radiating sensations extending from the elbow to the wrist - intermittent shooting discomfort in the arm The reaction significantly interfered with normal daily activities: - arm movement was painful - sleeping was uncomfortable due to pain and swelling - frequent icing was required to manage symptoms - persistent discomfort made sleeping and routine tasks difficult Because the redness continued to spread and the arm became increasingly swollen, hard, and painful, I sought medical attention. I was concerned with the severe inflammatory response and cellulitis. I was prescribed antibiotics and was given a work note to allow my arm to stay mobilized and elevated.
