Pt had received immunization, sat in chair next to mother while his sister received her shot. Approximately 2 minutes after sister had received her shot patient became pale, sank back into chair, did not fall out of chair, and was not responding. Time was 3:41pm. He did not appear to stop breathing. I called EMS at 3:42pm and sent for additional staff. While on the phone with EMS mother was speaking to patient, who began to answer her questions. Additional staff brought in emergency kit. Blood pressure was taken at 3:45, it was 91/33. Charge nurse did glucose check. Glucose was 107. Repeat blood pressure at approx. 3:48 was 105/56. Patient was oriented, and said that he felt nauseous. He did not vomit. His color began to improve. Father of patient arrived. Blood pressure at 3:53 was 114/61. EMS arrived at 3:58. EMS spoke with patient and mother of patient. EMS offered to take patient to be evaluated at hospital, but EMS reviewed vital signs taken by nurses in the clinic and educated parents that syncopal episodes after vaccines are common and that he seems "fine". Both mother and father of patient declined transport since patient was feeling much better and blood pressures had stabilized. Patient was able to stand without dizziness or any instability and walk out of clinic. Patient's parents encouraged to follow-up at ER if another episode were to occur.
