suspected vaccination failure; permanent nerve damage on my back from Shingles; shingles; Shingles had after-pain for a year; This serious case was reported by a consumer via interactive digital media and described the occurrence of vaccination failure in a patient who received Herpes zoster (Shingrix) for prophylaxis. Co-suspect products included VARICELLA ZOSTER VACCINE LIVE (OKA/MERCK) (ZOSTAVAX) for prophylaxis. The patient's past medical history included shingles (three times). On an unknown date, the patient received Shingrix and ZOSTAVAX. On an unknown date, an unknown time after receiving Shingrix and an unknown time after receiving ZOSTAVAX, the patient experienced vaccination failure (Verbatim: suspected vaccination failure) (serious criteria GSK medically significant), nerve damage (Verbatim: permanent nerve damage on my back from Shingles) (serious criteria clinically significant/intervention required), shingles (Verbatim: shingles) and post herpetic neuralgia (Verbatim: Shingles had after-pain for a year). The outcome of the vaccination failure and shingles were not reported and the outcome of the nerve damage and post herpetic neuralgia were not resolved. It was unknown if the reporter considered the vaccination failure, nerve damage, shingles and post herpetic neuralgia to be related to Shingrix. The company considered the vaccination failure and nerve damage to be unrelated to Shingrix. It was unknown if the company considered the shingles and post herpetic neuralgia to be related to Shingrix. Additional Information: GSK Receipt Date: 15-MAY-2026 This case was reported by a patient via interactive digital media. The reporter and company considered the vaccination failure, shingles, nerve damage and post herpetic neuralgia to be not reported if related to Zostavax. The patient had shingles three times. Patient did not have it again after patient was vaccinated. The patient received the Zostavax vaccine when it was introduced in 2006. When the Shingrix vaccine was introduced a few years later, it was recommended for Zostavax recipients, so patient received that one as well. The patient had permanent nerve damage in back from shingles and occasionally experienced flare-ups of pain there. The first-time patient had shingles and experienced after pain for a year. The second time patient had shingles, patient developed nerve damage and the after pain became permanent. When the Zostavax vaccine was released, patient rushed to get it. When Shingrix was released, patient received it too. Shingles had been one of the worst pains, patient had ever experienced. The batch number was not provided and unable to contact the reporter. This case was considered as suspected vaccination failure as details regarding completion of primary vaccination schedule, time to onset and laboratory test confirming shingles were unknown at the time of reporting.; Sender's Comments: A case of Vaccination failure and Nerve injury, unknown time after receiving Shingrix in a patient. Case lacks further information on time to onset, completion of primary vaccination schedule, concurrent conditions and laboratory confirmation. Based on the available information a possible causality that the event was caused by the GSK product cannot be ascertained. Consent for further follow-up has not been received.
