Approx 1 minute following injection of vaccine to the right deltoid, client experienced a syncopal reaction and went from a standing position to her knees. She was then assisted to the floor in a supine position by this nurse and client's mother. This nurse elevated bilateral lower extremities while calling for assistance. Client's legs were placed in an elevated position on a chair. Client's face was pale in color and she was noted to be slightly diaphoretic. LOC lasted approx 15 seconds. BP and pulse were taken once client regained consciousness, 90/62 and 79 bpm. After approx 5 min, client was assisted to a seated position on the floor and BP was taken again, 102/60. She was assisted to a standing position and declined having c/o dizziness/lightheadedness. Client independently ambulated out of exam room, accompanied by her mother, friend, and friend's mother. Client left clinic with her mother and denied c/o further sx of syncope.
