Immediately upon administration of a flu vaccine on 11/6/2025, I experienced unusual pressure and severe pain during injection and asked the administering nurse what she was doing because the injection was unusually painful. The injection site also appeared unusually high on the shoulder/arm. Pain began immediately following vaccination and progressively worsened throughout the day and following weeks. Symptoms included persistent shoulder and arm pain, painful range of motion, pain with lifting and raising the arm, sleep disruption due to pain, and significant limitation of daily activities and exercise. I delayed seeking care initially to see if symptoms would improve; however, due to persistent pain, I was evaluated by a physician on 11/25/2025 and diagnosed with SIRVA (Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration). A corticosteroid injection was administered with minimal/temporary relief, and I was referred to physical therapy. Physical therapy began on 12/17/2025 and has continued to the present time with persistent symptoms. MRI later demonstrated partial-thickness rotator cuff tears, rotator cuff tendinosis, biceps tendinosis, and glenohumeral synovitis/inflammation. Symptoms continue to impact sleep, daily activities, exercise, and overall quality of life.
