one week later I ended up in hospital; shingles; suspected vaccination failure; This serious case was reported by a consumer via interactive digital media and described the occurrence of vaccination failure in a patient who received Herpes zoster (Shingles vaccine) solution for injection for prophylaxis. Concurrent medical conditions included immunocompromised and non-alcoholic fatty liver (severe liver problem). On an unknown date, the patient received Shingles vaccine. On an unknown date, an unknown time after receiving Shingles vaccine, the patient experienced vaccination failure (Verbatim: suspected vaccination failure) (serious criteria GSK medically significant), hospitalization (Verbatim: one week later I ended up in hospital) (serious criteria hospitalization) and shingles (Verbatim: shingles). The outcome of the vaccination failure and hospitalization were not reported and the outcome of the shingles was not resolved. It was unknown if the reporter considered the vaccination failure, hospitalization and shingles to be related to Shingles vaccine. The company considered the vaccination failure and hospitalization to be unrelated to Shingles vaccine. The patient mentioned that he/she had also gotten the shot for prevention of shingles. One week later, the patient had ended up in hospital. The physician had told the patient the reasons on he/she got shingles was because he/she was compromised. The patient did not know at the time, but he/she had a severe liver problem. The patient needed a liver transplant because he/she had a fatty liver, and not from alcohol. The patient further mentioned that 4 years later, he/she still had excruciating pain on the right side of his/her face. The patient's physician had given him/her all kinds of prescriptions, which did not touch this pain. The patient would never recommend this shot to anyone who was compromised (that meant if anyone had any type of illness). It was the worst pain ever imaginable. The patient had an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) in reporting week (reporting week), which showed nothing. The patient would be getting a CT (computed tomography) next week and would be seeing the neurologist at the end of the month. The patient was hoping something could be done and could not imagine living the rest of his/her life with this pain. The patient stated that he/she would never get this shot again and mentioned that was just him/her. The batch number was not provided and unable to contact the reporter. This case was considered as suspected vaccination failure as details regarding completion of primary vaccination schedule, time to onset and laboratory test confirming shingles were unknown at the time of reporting.; Sender's Comments: A case of Vaccination failure and Hospitalization, unknown time after receiving Shingles vaccine in a patient.
