Suspected vaccination failure; possible shingles with PHN peripheral nerve pain; possible shingles with PHN; Not able to sleep; chronic thoracic pain; This serious case was reported by a consumer via call center representative and described the occurrence of vaccination failure in a 60-year-old male patient who received Herpes zoster (Shingrix) solution for injection for prophylaxis. The patient's past medical history included shingles (at the age of 30) and back surgery (in 2010 and 2012 before shingrix vaccine). Concurrent medical conditions included nerve pain, pain, hypothyroidism, blood pressure high and cholesterol. Concomitant products included gabapentin, oxycodone;paracetamol, thyroid and simvastatin (Statin). On 27-FEB-2022, the patient received the 2nd dose of Shingrix (left arm) .5 ml. In JAN-2022, less than a week after receiving Shingrix and less than a month after receiving Shingrix, the patient experienced thoracic pain (Verbatim: chronic thoracic pain) (serious criteria clinically significant/intervention required). On an unknown date, the patient experienced vaccination failure (Verbatim: Suspected vaccination failure) (serious criteria GSK medically significant), post herpetic neuralgia (Verbatim: possible shingles with PHN peripheral nerve pain) (serious criteria clinically significant/intervention required), shingles (Verbatim: possible shingles with PHN) and difficulty sleeping (Verbatim: Not able to sleep). The outcome of the vaccination failure was not reported and the outcome of the thoracic pain, post herpetic neuralgia, shingles and difficulty sleeping were not resolved. It was unknown if the reporter considered the vaccination failure, thoracic pain, post herpetic neuralgia, shingles and difficulty sleeping to be related to Shingrix. The company considered the vaccination failure, thoracic pain and post herpetic neuralgia to be unrelated to Shingrix. Additional Information: GSK receipt date 07-JUL-2026 The patient reported that he experienced his first chronic thoracic pain in Jan 2022, and his second episode in Feb 2022. The thoracic pain steadily increased to weekly and then daily by May 2022. The patient was not able to sleep in a bed for 5 years since getting the Shingrix vaccine due to the chronic pain. He was running out of options for pain relief. He had been to two neurosurgeons, had 2 MRI, 2 pain clinics, a chiropractor, massage therapist, had acupuncture that caused more peripheral nerve pain. The patient had ablation surgery in vertebrae in Oct 2025 on levels 7/8, 8/9, and 9/10 of his vertebrae. Another ablation surgery in Jan 2026 on levels 9/10, 10/11, 11/12, and 12/SLI of his vertebrae. None of these options have been successful. The patient had shingles when he was 30 years old and the nerve pain now is similar to what he experienced way back then. The one of the neurologists believes it might be postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) from shingles, even though he had no breakouts or blisters. The patient was receiving blood pressure medication multivitamins including vitamin B. This case has been considered as suspected vaccination failure since the details regarding time to onset and laboratory confirmation of shingles were unknown at the time of reporting.
